Seeds of Success (SOS) is the national native seed collection program, under the umbrella of the National Native Plant Materials Development Program, led by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). SOS’ mission is to collect wildland native seed for the development of native plant materials for landscape level restoration.
The SOS partnership includes many federal agencies and hundreds of non-federal organizations such as botanic gardens, arboreta, zoos, and municipalities. These SOS teams share a common protocol and coordinate seed collecting and species targeting efforts. This work is creating a vital seed bank for native plant materials development, research, and habitat restoration that your organization can contribute to and benefit from.
To date, SOS has over 10,000 native seed collections in its National Collection. This material is being used for direct seeding in local restoration projects and research such as germination trials, common garden studies, and protocol establishment. Portions of each collection are also being held in long-term storage facilities for conservation.
This workshop is geared towards people new to SOS who may want to partner in this national seed collection program.
